In case of 1ph to ground fault conditions, the flow of current will result in voltage gradients within and around the plant, not only between structures and nearby earth, but also along the ground surface. In a properly designed grounding system, this gradient should not exceed the limits that can be tolerated by the human body and are fixed by standards.

Manunza & Melis Engineering Consulting has developed its own software to carry out the calculation of grounding grids in compliance with the standards IEEE 80-2000 and CEI 11-1 (1999). The in-house developed software has been thoroughly validated and successfully compared with the results reported in the IEEE 80-2000 and by one the most popular commercial software CYMGRD.
