Every time a fault occurs in an electrical power system, the most important things to do are to understand exactly what happened, what caused the fault, which electrical protections properly operated and which not, to propose the remedial actions.
The fault analysis starts with the critical examination of both the "sequence of events" and the oscillograms stored inside the fault recordes. Then the fault is reconstructed and eventually simulated by proper softwares. Finally remedial actions are proposed to avoid the fault could happen again.
